Gump is keeping her charge light on while I drive. Not the bright
light you get prior to starting, but a subtle little glow that just
will not go out.

Is the battery going bad? Might the alternator not be doing its job of
feeding more volts back? A short someplace quietly draining my
battery?

Assistance needed.

1972 220D, 85 month battery bought new in 9/04, fresh belt from Rusty
in 11/06, started in the last cold snap when the light came and stayed
on bright after starting her on a 20*f day

Clay,

If you haven't retentioned that new belt, I am betting it is slipping,
especially trying to recover from cold starts and heavy glowing. Reach down
and
see if you can turn the fan pulley with a gloved hand. If it slips at all, it
is too loose. by the way, isn't the voltage regiulator mounted separately
from the alternator?

Still could be brushes, but i am betting on a loose belt.

Regards.
