Unfortunately that's what everything is going - plastics and electronics - both can be difficult or impossible to repair. a 50 year old Leica will keep on snapping - while a newer Minolta gets a electronic bug and refuses to do anything. Only can be repaired at the Repair Center and only by replacing stuff - nothing is repaired, only replaced. When they decide to stop making the replacement electronic gizmos the whole camera becomes a paperweight. And if you look in your furnace you will see the same thing - wires and black boxes.
