The Navy beach battalions have gotten little credit, either, 'til very recently. I realize now that the men we occasionally see in photos and movies wearing helmets with an arc painted across the front were my brother's men - US Navy. We usually see them helping wounded, driving bulldozers, etc. Beach battalions were composed of many specialties, including, demolition, signalmen, riflemen, medics and others - whatever necessary to manage the beach.
