It has been a while since we gathered for a Mercurial sprint.
I talked with a various people about organizing a sprint this year and two different category of goals emerged. First there a lot of low level "project" topics that would benefit from in-person meeting to be discussed and resolved (e.g. packaging, developer tooling, infrastructure, etc) and second there is a will to create an opportunity to reach out to a wider array of users and people satellite to the project to discuss the current state of the tool and the project.
Since is has been so long we have done a sprint, it seems hard to
prevent the first category of boring "project" related discussion
to interfere with the availability needed to welcome people coming
for the second category. In addition, larger sprints with more
people requires more heads up and are harder to setup. Starting
small seem simpler.
So our proposal is to start with one or two smaller sprints, focusing on the lower level project needs (packaging, developer tooling, etc) with whoever is available. Then we work on a larger sprint setup reaching out to more people to discuss higher level and longer terms topics.
Regarding the time frame, we think we have a first windows in July 2025, and second window in October-November 2025, and then another one in February-April 2026.
So I think we should try to setup a first "mini" sprint in July (two months from now) somewhere in Europe as most currently active people are in Europe. I started pilling up possible topic in a wiki page a few month back : https://wiki.mercurial-scm.org/2025Sprint
