I can confirm that issue with the described procedure in 0.12 for Windows.
I noticed one detail: the maps are not shifted and displayed correctly 
if the yahoo pics come from the cache. I had to restart Merkaartor to 
reproduce the behavior. I zoomed to the maximum possible level and found 
a shift distance of up to 200 meters afterwards, although this might 
depend on some other factors...
