From what I hear, the P4 is better than the Athlon at streaming data, but worse at everything else. Streaming data is good when you process a lot of data the same way, such as in graphics. But the P4 has a deep pipeline that will be dumped if there is a branch. If I were buying now, I'd get an Athlon.
