When in doubt grep it ;-)
$ git grep -5 -w PKG_CHECK_MODULES -- configure.ac
PKG_CHECK_MODULES([FANCY_NAME], [dep1 >= version1 dep2 >= version2]
Of course, the version checks are not mandatory.
