Hi all,
PS3 only support frame buffer operations when running in "Other OS" mode.
The hypervisor restricts direct GPU access. So naturally, GPU accelerated
OpenGL is close to impossible on the system. (Maybe somebody can hack the
hypervisor.) I know I can run the mesa software renderer on the system, but
one can't help wonder what kind of render power one can obtain if we
dispatch workloads to the SPUs. This would also be a great project to learn
about the architecture of the system.
I am interested in making contribution to porting the software renderer to
be SPU accelerated (probably a lot of re-architecture work to leverage the
SPUs in the correct fashion). Before I begin though, I would like to make
sure that there is not already an on-going effort for this, and that this is
actually a sane idea to pursue. I'd also appreciate any
input/ideas/suggestions for going down this path.
Thanks,
Kelvin
