Just to be clear, "SVGA" here is the VMware virtual GPU interface, not the
ancient SVGA video standard.

This driver will allow guest Linux OpenGL applications to utilize the host's 3D
graphics hardware when running VMware Workstation.

Subject: [Mesa3d-dev] SVGA Gallium3D Driver

Hello all!

As some of you might have noticed I just pushed out the SVGA driver to
the Mesa repository. For those that didn't please read on.

The driver requires Xorg 1.7.x and the vmwgfx kernel driver.

You can get the userspace driver from the mesa repository on the
master branch now, but the kernel driver should be available tomorrow
at git://git.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/vmwgfx.git sorry about that.

The SVGA OpenGL driver is the first production ready Gallium3D driver.
However the kernel driver and both DRI and Xorg state tracker are only
beta quality, we are going to stabilize the state trackers on the 7.7
mesa branch. While aiming for inclusion of the vmwgfx kernel driver
for in linux 2.6.33.

The driver was a team effort with Keith, José, Stephen, Michel,
Michal, Zack, Thomas, Vinson, Alan and myself all making
contributions. All building on top of the work done in Gallium and Mesa.

Short about the Xorg 1.7.x requirement, the driver will run on 1.6.x
server but due optimization in exa made for 1.7.x it will be horribly
slow (I kid you not). We are looking into fixing this somehow.

Just to repeat you can not test it yet as the kernel driver isn't out
there, but will be shortly.

Cheers Jakob.
