1) As noted on the mailing list

mesos-getconf no longer exists in bin, but deploy requires it. Per Matei's
suggestion, I checked out revision 1205738 and used its mesos-getconf with no
issue.
2) deploy/mesos-daemon looks for $PROGRAM in bin, but install puts the programs
in sbin.
