Welcome contributors, Welcome Stefan, Welcome Tobias, I have set up this mailing list to avoid that internal discussions between Tobias and me and private emails between Stefan and me get lost or lock future contributors out of our project.
Before delving into all the technical details, I use the chance to introduce myself and give you an impression what my goals in this project are. I am working at BMW Car IT GmbH focusing "on the design and development of innovative software for future BMW Group automobiles and motorbikes" (quoting *http://www.bmw-carit.com/*). I believe that ROS is a useful platform for research and product development of robotic systems. However, I and others in the ROS community (as discussed on the ROS for Products Workshop) have identified that there is still some work to be done to use ROS in commercial products. In my opinion, one of the pressing issues is to automate the process of deployment of software developed with ROS into embedded systems. The OpenEmbedded Linux project and the Yocto Project already provide a great platform for creating a Linux distribution for various boards. Starting in November 2012, I have started to working with bitbake and OpenEmbedded and wrote the first recipes in the git repository. In January 2013, I made this on-going work publicly available. As this project is not the only work I do, I will contribute on an irregular schedule. However, the maintenance tasks (accepting pull requests and doing code reviews) stays on my daily schedule. It would be nice if you could introduce yourself shortly, too. By the way, although we are all three German native speakers, I strongly recommend to keep all discussions in English. Auf eine gute Zusammenarbeit! Well from now on, I'll stick to English ;) Lukas
