confusing "protected space"

In a text ,converted to html, the "protected space" - on the Mac:
numtochar(202) - appears as " "

In Metacard on Windows-PC the htmltext " " acts as a normal "space"
- numtochar(160)

How a text, written with Metacard on a Mac and then put into htmltext,
could be properly get transposed from htmltext in a Metacard stack on
Windows-PCs, so that the "protected space" would stay a "protected
space"?

Any hints are mostly welcome.
