There have been numerous reports of problems with these ATI drivers on
the QuickTime list. Reportedly the last few releases of the driver
are much improved, but in some cases turning acceleration off (or
disabling the extensions entirely) seems to be the only reliable cure.
Just FYI, the Windows ATI drivers are pretty broken too, and they have
yet to release a driver that works properly at all resolutions and
screen depths that the cards are supposed to support. Amazingly,
these problems are easily reproducible using just the demo games that
ship on the Windows 98 CD. Not a great thing to see from what is
probably the world's largest vendor of graphics chips.
