You should be fine with 8-bit mono 22KHz sampling. You could take it up
to 16-bit if you suspect that the fidelity difference is great enough to
warrant it, but if space is an issue the lower bitdepth will be adequate
to suit the abilities of many home computer speaker systems.
As far as you rother questions go, were this Director I could give you
all sorts of advice, but as this is MC and I really am not up to speed
with all its scripting abilities, I'll have to leave it up to list
luminaries to address.
