No. It doesn't work well enough even for that. Show of hands, how
many people have had Java crash their browser? Virtually every
person
I've talked to on the subject has had this experience. People seem
to
have a much lower expectation for browsers than they do for other
applications. Unfortunately, people using MetaCard aren't producing
browsers and so generally expect more reliability than any
Java-based
product can deliver.

I agree Java has its limitations based on slow development/implementation of
the JDK, version control, and painfully slow database retrieval. It is
maturing however, and I have seen many fully functioning heavy duty apps
that actually work. Its main drawback is that you need to be a serious
programmer/coder to work with it. That being said..I agree with David..why
not make MC Java convertible? I tried the Director "Save as Java" option the
other day and surprizingly it worked. I can take any Director movie and in
less than 2 minutes turn it into a Java/html file that can be read from any
browser with full interactivity (and yes I tested it on Mac/PC/Unix browsers
with no problems at all). Now if I could do that with MetaCard and not have
to save a Mac version, a PC version, a Unix version (after tweaking fonts
and colors) and just post it on the web...I would be a very happy guy!
