Thanks to "Sjoerd Op 't Land" who put me on the right track.
After some testing (only on Windows) I use the following script:
on mouseUp
ask "Old name?" with "ital2"
put it into navn
--------------checks if the custProp exists:
get the customKeys of cd "hovedmeny"
put false into finnes
repeat with i = 1 to number of lines of it
put line i of it into temp1
if temp1 = navn then put true into finnes
end repeat
if not finnes then
put "There's no custProp with that name!"
exit mouseUp
end if
----------------Puts the contents of the old custProp into a variable:
put the navn of cd "hovedmeny" into temp
ask "New name?" with "ital3"
put it into nynavn
----------------Puts the old contents into a new custProp:
set the nynavn of cd "hovedmeny" to temp
put the customKeys of cd "hovedmeny" into kust
------The name of the new custProp appears after LAST line of the customKeys.
------Whereas if you look at it in Custom Properties the order there is
always alphabetical!
---------------Finds the line number of the old custProp in the CustomKeys:
put the lineOffset(navn,kust) into nr
delete line nr of kust
set the customKeys of cd "hovedmeny" to kust
end mouseUp
