You might want to take a look at my PseudoTable, or Marni Cantor's
version of it, PseudoTable Plus. It won't do everything you need, but it
does allow you to have wrapped text inside each cell. With some
tinkering, you might be able to script in column resizing or reordering,
though I expect in large tables these operations might be slow.
PseudoTable does allow you refer to cells the way you describe, since
each cell is really a field that is named according to its column and
row location. You can find PseudoTable at Cross Worlds web site, or at
