I am thinking of converting from HyperCard to MetaCard.
I use HyperCard as a database for my small business and for my personal
needs. I have perhaps two dozen stacks from a one card appointment and to do
list stack to stacks of up to about 8 to 10 thousand cards for keeping track
of client billing time and expenses. I have one stack of about a thousand
cards that is about 16 mb mainly of stored text.
I use Reports from 9 to 5 with many of the stacks.
I have read the MetaCard list archives and all the other material I can find
and they say that I shouldn't use MetaCard for a database of more than about
1000 cards.
Why is this? Is it just that it isn't as efficient as a "true" database
program. If that is all it is, I would live with the inefficiency as I am
doing with HyperCard. I only want to learn one program and try to know it
really well.
Is it that there is nothing for MetaCard like the "Reports" XCMD's? I have
been using them for so long that I have forgotten what HyperCard was like
without them? Could "Reports" be used with MetaCard.
Would there there be danger to my data in large stacks? Would there be an
undue speed hit?
Thanks for your help.
