Unless I'm missing the point, this is a non-question as Macs use
Type/Creator resources in place of a Registry. Your standalone has a
creator code (eg APPL/MCRD) and your files have a matching resource (eg
MSTK/MCRD) built in. No need, therefore, for a Registry on a Mac; opening a
file launches the matching application automatically.
