Hi everybody!
Although I hate to nag like this, the "reading experience" on this list
would improve if the majority would follow some easy, general rules,
that I think most people already aggree to, but having them in written
may help to better keep them in mind:
1. Subject
It helps *very* much if the subject line says something about the
contents... by extension: Don't reply to the digest without fixing the
subject. I often skip all postings with a "Re: Digest MetaCard" subject.
2. Length
Lengthly source code or explanations should, if at all possible, be
stored on some server... it will be better referenceable and updateable
and all. I think I am not the only one who has not the time to read it
unless it is more than of general interest to me... a short abstract
would be much more usefull, but I know that is more work to write.
3. Quoting
Quote only if it is essential to understand the point *you* are trying
to make... the discussion may have had several interesting points, but
those that are interested can reread them in the archives if they have
missed one. Abbreviate the quotes whenever possible.
4. HTML
I understand that some people have on purpose set their mail client to
allways use HTML formatting, but most have this just as a default
setting. The problem is that some mail clients do not support it and it
does not work with the digest version of the list. IMHO 'rich text' does
not make the text richer ;)
Sorry for bothering...
Rüdiger
