Open your Quicktime player and play the sound straight via QT. And see if
you get the same "burp start". This will tell the story.
I have experienced this QT anamoly both inside and outside of Metacard. .
perfect in your sound editor, but burp starts under QT. Not clear why. . .
is seems that QT has "gone forward" but the output to the speaker is trying
to "catch-up". (symptom can be as bad as losing the first word of a
song/talk or having the volume of that first word be very low and the next
word full volume) A work around is to put some "truly" dead silence (no
machine noise) at the beginning of the file. You don't need much, 500
millisecs/ x number of frames in QT. A full second is really safe, requires
a good editor. . .
You might also get better results converting the sound to a quicktime.mov
file w/sound track only or an sound.mpg. MPG is a great performer in terms
of file size and quality and a .mov file with sound track is useful if you
want to "do stuff" with it like access the sound file in the middle of the
track etc. but I have had that burp even with .mov files, while .mpg seems
to minimize it the most.
