Hi,
Pardon my ignorance please but I'm wondering if there is a public domain
'cardfile' or 'phone-address' application for Metacard floating around
somewhere?
It seems like the most natural application in the world for MC so I
would assume there is a ton of them, probably most newbies's first
programming project, extend the tutorial example? I'm loking for a
spophisticated one. I'm thinking this is probably common knowlege?
Reason - going back for quite a few years I used the 'cardfile'
application on Windows 3x as my address book, and also to store assorted
odd bits of information, like passwords or directions to some place
or how to bleed my pump system or whatever. I kept running it on Win
95 too, though MS didn't supply it anymore. I liked it because it was
free form, although limited in space per card. Now I use shareware AZZ
cardfile, which has much better indexing and unlimited space per card,
does html formatting, export, import, and it worked great in absorbing 4
different out of synch but almost duplicate card files from 4 different
PCs in different locations. It has quite a few slick features.
But now I have a similar problem of separate data places to be kept in
synch, including PC's, Mac, and RedHat Linux running Gnome. Obviously,
AZZ won't run on the Mac or Unix (without some emulator), and Metacard
seems like a natural, plus, I could add my own features.
Suggestion, anyone? Ok, I could develop something, but why reinvent
the wheel? If anyone out there wants to share their roll your own
version, I would like to try it, and thank you in advance!
Sadhu
