I know you weren't making fun of them, because it is simply not in your
nature to do that. The points that you and others have made, that
HyperCard is important in sustaining the scripting community as a whole,
are right on the mark. Without HyperCard, none of the scripting products
on the market today would be around.
I have a terrible time restraining myself every time someone on the HC
list moans for a feature that MetaCard already has. So I've undertaken a
quiet campaign. I do not post there about MetaCard, but whenever I
correspond with a list member privately I mention MetaCard if
appropriate. I have been moving all my clients to the product and they
are very satisfied too. So call it guerrilla warfare. :)
I would still be in the midst of the Save HyperCard campaign if I felt
there was even a shred of hope, but after a lot of discussion with the
ex-HC team members at Apple, I am convinced (as are they) that HyperCard
has gone as far as it will go. It is so awfully sad. But I am grateful
we have MetaCard to take its place, and MetaCard has proven itself to be
everything we wanted in HyperCard 3.0 and more. It's a complicated loss,
sort of like getting remarried after the death of a beloved spouse.
And HyperCard, in spite of its age, is STILL far better at printing
reports and debugging. :)
