This is good -- I knew if I waited long enough this thread would get on
topic. :-)

Actually, the above statement is far from accurate (sorry Monte) for MC 2.3
and earlier; we'll have to wait and see what's do-able with v2.4...

The total assets used in the Announcement piece total around 18MB (the
majority of this is audio). Through Flash compression and use of vector
images where possible, the total presentation is compressed down to 1.3MB.
It is also worth noting that all the imagery that appears in the
Announcement is antialiased.

It is true that you could build a similar presentation in MC, but it's very
unlikely you would achieve the same filesize, much less smaller filesize.
You could render many of images using native MC graphics, but you would have
to sacrifice antialiased images for jagged graphic objects.

You could build the animations externally as animated GIF or QuickTime, but
your resulting animations would then be based on bitmaps, which are far less
efficient than animated vectors.

Finally, let's say you wanted to distribute this type of thing to a non-MC
audience. The MC engine runs 1.3MB on Windows and over 3MB on MacOS, while
the Flash player weighs in at just over 400K.

So the bottom line is, you *could* do it in MC, but I'm not sure there any
compelling reasons to do so.

On the other hand, I for one, very much want to build these types
presentations in MC. To Scott Raney's chagrin, I have been lobbying for
some time for more enhanced graphics support, and it looks like his group is
starting to deliver this with v2.4 (bless you MC Corp). So now perhaps
someone will step up and prove my previous comments wrong. :-)

PS Just for the record, there are no triplets, just a single boy.

Regards,

Scott
