There are some settings in the Windows registry (my Win98 reg) that
you might want to experiment with:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Display\Settings]
"fonts.fon"="vgasys.fon"
"fixedfon.fon"="vgafix.fon"
"oemfonts.fon"="vgaoem.fon"
"DPILogicalX"="96"
"DPILogicalY"="96"
"DPIPhysicalX"="96"
"DPIPhysicalY"="96"
"BitsPerPixel"="16"
"Resolution"="800,600"
"UpgradeToDefaultMode"=""
"AttachToDesktop"="1"
"DesktopPos"="0,0"

If I understand correctly, some of these settings tell the current
display rect (e.g. "800,600") and the resolution (in DPI) of displayed
content (e.g. "96").

This doesn't really answer your question, and I don't know what
happens if you have more than one monitor on a machine, but at least
it's a starting point.

Enjoy!
