Figured it out! The problem lay not with stdin but with the arbitrary limit to the number of characters that can be inputted in a textarea form object (as well as my half-literate html writing skills -- my understanding of html headers, for one, is much better now).
So, the off-topic question now is how to get around that limit... (One stopgap solution is to embed a javascript that warns the user when that limit has been exceeded. Still, I'd prefer to avoid this restriction if possible, and thru a browser rather than a downloadable stack.)
