Dear Listees: Greetings, happy holidays, happy New Year, and all that stuff.
I've just returned from a lovely vacation in Nevada where we managed to fit a bit of dry lake bed meteorite hunting in-between the Vegas shows and other adventures. I think Bob V., Paul G., et al have already picked over every dry lake bed out there, but it's fun to try especially when there's nobody else for miles and you can really open up the 4WD. Thanks a lot for the 469 emails about the IMCA. Sorry to see that an association of some sort still hasn't materialized, but can't say I'm surprised. It only takes one or two childish trouble makers to ruin a well-intentioned project, as was amply demonstrated last time an association was attempted, a couple of years back. So, in only about a month, many of us will be heading for Tucson, and I just wanted to send out a reminder for the annual Meteor Mayhem birthday party which Steve Arnold and I will be hosting on Feb. 9, 2002. Thanks to the many Listees who have already sent me an R.S.V.P. We'll be mailing out invitations in about two weeks, so if you think you might be in Tucson for the show please reply to me off-list, with your POSTAL address. We've moved the party to larger and grander quarters for 2002, and it should be quite an event. List members new and old are invited -- it's a once-a-year chance to match faces and email addresses, and meet some real characters! Also, with the year drawing to a close, I'd like to remind everyone that a very big "thank you" is due to Art Jones at Meteorite Central for bringing us the one and only Meteorite List -- and Art, excellent job with the new website design! Very classy and better than ever. Regards to all, Geoff N.
