Hi John, I can understand your reluctance in attempting to place a monetary value on Apollo lunar specimens. There are several ways that one could manufacture an estimate, but it would only be an opinion as there is no precedent and no "market value" for Apollo moon rocks. One way would be to take the mass of the stolen fragments, divide it by the total mass of lunar rocks collected by all the Apollo missions, and apply that fraction to the inflation-adjusted cost of those missions -- billions of dollars. You'd probably end up with a figure into the millions dollars, and that doesn't even take into consideration the risk to human lives that went into retrieving these lunar specimens. --Rob
