Great point about the boxes Pete.I thank Adam for my use of a boxes whenever I sell my meteorites to customers. The main reason as you said was size and a bit harder to hide under a shirt or a Fanny Flap, thus the package may have better odds of reaching the destination without being stolen or lost. I know not always...but just trying to better the odds here. The boxes are free if you use USPS priority mail small flat rate. It can also can handle abuse better such as simple tossing around or getting dropped and then getting lightly stepped on as what probably happens often in the sorting of packages at most delivery firms such as UPS etc.. Of course keeping your specimen so it is not flopping around in an envelope or box helps immensely.

An added note of advice, I always wondered why Adam Hupe' shipped tiny, sometimes almost weightless, pieces of meteorite in a relatively huge

3 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 6" box, until I heard similar stories like this in the past and it dawned on me.

An box this size is not easily concealed in clothing by a postal/courier employee, and would discourage all but the most determined thief.



Was this intentional, Adam, and has it proven beneficial, in your experience?



I haven't sold any meteorites yet, but when I do I'll be shipping in similar containers.

That really stinks - to put it poetically. ;)

It also reinforces my belief that UPS blows. I had numerous problems
with them in the past and their customer service is horrible. I'd
rather burn a package than give it to them. I haven't used UPS in
about 5 years now and I will never use them again.

If for some reason I cannot ship via USPS (such as a customer requests
an alternate method), then I use Fed Ex.

Count - I wouldn't expect much sympathy or any sort of action to
rectify the situation on the behalf of UPS. You'll get a lot of nice
talk and smooth words, but no action.

Well, I hope your meteorite eventually shows up.

I've been waiting over 8 weeks now for a valuable package from Canada
and it is gone - I'm not sure who stole it, Canada Post or USPS. But,
this is one of only a small handful of problems I have had with USPS
over the years of shipping thousands of packages. By contrast, I have
only used UPS about 10 times, and almost every time there was some
sort of problem.
