Hi Shawn, I supposed it was found by eye during a careful search. Other stones were likely found in the immediate vicinity and a "hands and knees" search probably found it. Or, a strong magnet dragged along the surface in that area.
Metal detectors are of limited use for specimens of that size - and metal detectors in general are not much use in some desert locales - depending on the quantity and type of native rocks in the desert pavement.
