Howdy all
A fire and explosion occurred at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas on
Wednesday (17 April 2013) morning. The town was devastated by the blast, with
widespread damage and fourteen deaths. Tragically, eleven of those dead are
fire fighters who responded to the blast.
Many meteorite hunters and scientists traveled to West for the "Ash
Creek" meteorite fall in 2009, and I think I can speak for many when I say that
we have fond memories of the hospitality and enthusiasm of the locals. When I
called the West volunteer fire department (VFD) to inquire about making a
donation, I found out that a gentleman who had taken time out of his busy day
to give me a guided tour of the strewn field was injured in the blast and his
truck was totalled. I spoke with his wife, who happened to be a volunteer at
the VFD and remembered me and other meteorite hunters by name. We think it
would be a nice gesture to send a donation on behalf of the meteorite community.
Please donate to disaster relief for the town of West, and specifically
for their fire fighters. Galactic Analytics is not a non-profit organization,

will be sent to the West, TX volunteer fire department - we will cover any
