Ryan, If it's been cut or sliced, it's probably already had cutting coolant (water or oil) and maybe alcohol all over it, so unless it's a pristine specimen, then it's already been subjected to terrestrial water/liquids.
Anhydrous Alcohol (99+% ethanol) is best for cleaning since it will pretty well totally evaporate away, unlike distilled water.
