Hi Alex,

you can find the article in MAPS 42/3, March 2007, p.321:
Folco, D'Orazio, Perchiazzi: "Authenticating the recovery location of
meteorites:
The case of Castenaso"
A L5 chondrite of 120 gram was claimed to be found near Bologna, Italy - but
it was clearly proved that it came from a hot desert.

Very interesting to read.

Best regards

Dieter

There was an article about forensic work on a meteorite, which was claimed by the finder to be of origin in a certain European country in one of the more recent MAPS (Meteoritics and Planetary Science) papers, which I unfortunately don“t have at hands here in Berlin, but instead at my other home (...other subscribers to MAPS may have the paper infos quicker than I can find out from here right now, please report...). By forensic analysis this was clearly resolved to be a fake from the finder! It was in fact a dislocated hot desert meteorite. Whoever tries to do this nowadays must rest assured he/she has to face conviction and last but not least all the personally induced consequences when trying to communicate with the society of meteoritical science, dealers and collectors alike ever after this...
