Huh? "Mr. F. Merighi, who reported to have
found the stone on the right bank of the Idice
stream near the Castenaso village" [Italy]
http://arp.unipi.it/dettaglioar.php?ide=93824
I guess the Italian researchers got it wrong too...
Getting back to what you said before:
>oh yes, or the next USA fake meteorite found in a
>moroccan desert and put in a USA desert...we
>know here in Italy some nice history's on this type of found.
Matteo, you made a serious accusation and
you have not produced any "type of found" or proof.
Provide "the history's" or apologize, NO excuses.
This is a trust based hobby. A person who lies
and fabricates untruths will also lie about his meteorites.
It that how you want to be viewed? It is better
to be wrong than to be a slanderer/liar in the
eyes of the meteorite community and new collectors.

Castenaso is a strange case, who have found say clearly have
found the meteorite in the golf field, and from the photos
take from the zone, it is well visible the hole where the
meteorite are fit. The complete meteorite show a typical
crust from sahara desert, but the person is well know for
its reliability....a probably joke?
This is one of the some cases, but many others is know but
not revealed for not start fights from laboratory to others
laboratory....the problem is some of this cases they check
important meteorites, strangly find in other deserts around
the world just when the NWA era is born....

Hi Alex,
you can find the article in MAPS 42/3, March 2007, p.321:
Folco, D'Orazio, Perchiazzi: "Authenticating the recovery
location of meteorites: The case of Castenaso"
A L5 chondrite of 120 gram was claimed to be found near
Bologna, Italy - but it was clearly proved that it came
from a hot desert.
Very interesting to read.
Best regards
Dieter

There was an article about forensic work on a meteorite,
which was claimed by the finder to be of origin in a
certain European country in one of the more recent MAPS
(Meteoritics and Planetary Science) papers, which I
unfortunately don“t have at hands here in Berlin, but
instead at my other home (...other subscribers to MAPS may
have the paper infos quicker than I can find out from here
right now, please report...). By forensic analysis this
was clearly resolved to be a fake from the finder! It was
in fact a dislocated hot desert meteorite. Whoever tries
to do this nowadays must rest assured he/she has to face
conviction and last but not least all the personally
induced consequences when trying to communicate with the
society of meteoritical science, dealers and collectors
alike ever after this...

Proof? Name? which meteorite would you be talking
about? Not the new falls you recovered on the beach,
or in your friend's backyard right?

Good for you Matteo, good for you. I did not know
that
the whole world needed to know your hatred for new
falls. So when the next fake meteorite comes out
of
Italy,
oh yes, or the next USA fake meteorite found in a
moroccan
desert and put in a USA desert...we know here in
Italy some
nice history's on this type of found.
