Yes -
The government has gotten bigger (since 1906) when the "American Antiquities 
Act of 1906" was passed.  This topic has been discussed on the list before.  
From what I understand, meteorites found on BLM land is the ownership of the 
Smithsonian, it just has not been enforced.  This is one of the negatives of 
publicity and talk of meteorite value, perhaps.  I wonder if Lorton has 
anything to do with their increased interest?  

BTW, I'll just search for "iron-ore" from now on.

Has anyone called this number (1-503-808-6596) to see who it it?
