Names only have to convey geographic information and should be features that appear on widely used maps of the region. There is a common misconception that post offices are somehow involved. This is an urban legend. As far as geological features are concerned, these often have widely used geographic names as well, and these are fine names to use for meteorites. Mine names that are on widely used maps are also ok. However, one would not use a unit or formation name, nor the name of a fault or other geological structure unless you find these on maps other than geologic maps.

It can be named after a geological feature too. It's not uncommon in Australia where you can be hundreds of kilometers from anywhere!

Specimens have been found in two counties, so a county name might not work. Miffin might be cool, but there is no Post Office there. Maybe Mineral Point, WI?

I see everybody starting to call this fall "Livingston"... but this is
not likely to be accepted as the name since there are already meteorites
named Livingston (Montana) and Livingston (Tennessee).
