Just prepared some 5M GuHCl in PBS/N3 (without Ca and Mg). It didn't dissolve completely (got a turbid solution) and I decided to filter it (tissue culture style bottle top filter). I got the expected clear solution, but in the filter remained a layer of a colourless gelatin like looking material.
