Thanks John,

I didn't understand.  I have always been using a Permanent license key.  ie a node locked license.  I thought that when I requested a permanent license key it would be a key that was independant from the hardware in the machine, therefore I would be able to change to a new computer or reformat my system at will.

As it turns out, this is not the case.  My request was premature.  I will need to send a new request in now that I have installed on a new system and ended up with a new server code.

My initial concern was that sdrc would someday stop fullfilling key requests and without a hlo I would be left out in the cold.  I assume now that sdrc will continue to issue keys?  I could purchase a hlo I suppose, but I can't justify the cost.

Thanks for your help

Subject: Re: [mfg-smartcam] Permanent License Key question

Check this technote out

The first part of the Techtip talks about how node locked licensing works.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I just received my Permanent license Key from SDRC.  I guess I didn't
understand what this would do for me.  I thought I would be able to migrate
my smartcam installation to my new computer but it doesn't work.

It seems the same as previouse keys whereby my request included a Server
Code based on my old system.  So the new key includes a server code that is
different than the code given in my license manager.

Any ideas on how this is all supposed to work?

Thanks
