Mr. Moreno: The separate Camand products continue to be available but we offer product bundles that include I-DEAS capability that are more attractive from a price perspective.
Two release cycles ago SDRC made some bold decisions based on the market input we were receiving from our customers and VAR partners. Those customers and VARs were demanding functionality requirements that would be impossible to meet while attempting to develop three separate products. Many of these expectations were based on environment capabilities that are inherit to the I-DEAS product family. It was also evident that the future would present a market that would expect solids based machining capabilities that were integrated and associated rather than just interfaced. It would also not be a wise financial business decision to continue to have these valuable and talented developers continue to enhance products that developed a relatively small revenue stream. This is why the development staff that created SmartCAM and Camand were reassigned to develop new functionality in I-DEAS Generative Machining. The progress this has made possible is evident in I-DEAS 8. I-DEAS 8 is the first release to benefit fully from the efforts of the reassigned developers since during the development of I-DEAS 7 SDRC also released four versions of Camand and SmartCAM. I-DEAS 8 is set for first customer shipment next month and includes more specific CAM enhancement than any prior release of SDRC CAM functionality.
