We got hit on Tuesday at about noon. 1 user opened the attachment and it got
sent out with the corporate address book. Nasty, Nasty. We just got back on
to outside E-mail this morning.

FYI, there is a security patch for MS office and/or Outlook 98 and 2000,
that blocks ALL EXECUTABLE attachments, send or receive. By block I mean you
CANNOT get to the attachment at all. The only thing to do is have the party
resend the attachment by changing the extension to .txt or something that is
not recognized as executable by the OS (i.e. .bat, .cmd, .exe, .com, .vbs,
there is a long list of file extensions in the help file in Outlook), then
inform the recipient to save the file to their hard drive, run a virus scan
on it, and then rename it to the proper extension. You can also change the
period (.) before the extension to an underscore (_) BEFORE you attach the
file to the message. Your System Admin can also block the attachments at the
Exchange server, so if you need to send someone a blocked attachment, check
with your admin.

There was a virus out last week that ran some VB code just by opening the
e-mail. So, the rule stands more important than ever, IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO
SENT IT, OR IF YOU DO, WHY THEY SENT IT, DON'T OPEN IT, delete it and clean
out your deleted items folder.

Sincerely,
Chuck Glawe

We got hit with that one this morning, fotunately got the warning moments
before the email. We have been hit 3 times in 3 days!

Yesterday I clicked on a "post" on the list and a window appeared on the
screen, something loaded and Outlook tried to run.... (the post was blank,
by the way). Fortunately I have all traces of Outlook & Outlook Express
deleted from my PC.

Don't open ANY .scr attachments!!!!! This stuff is out of control!

Hey guys, not sure if you heard about this one, but it is an incredibly bad
virus. The virus is attached to an e-mail message (in subject it says "hi")
and the file is called GONE.SCR. Because it is a screensaver, it typically
will not be caught by your mainframe's virus detector. DO NOT open this
file. It will immediately attack you e-mail address book and start sending
messages (20 to each person). Eventually, it will start to attack your
executable files.
