David,

The depth of a hole element, regardless of hole operation (drilling,
tapping, reaming, etc...), is always a positive value measured from the
surface of the hole (the Z level of the hole element)to the tip depth. The
tip depth calculation using full depth and spot diameter values is only
available for the hole tool types which include a tip angle in their
definition (twist drill, spot drill and countersink). All other tool types
default to tip depth as the only valid option.

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] Rigid Tapping

Hello Group

I have monitered this group for quit awile. I have been using SmartCam
Production Mill Ver. 11 for years and have had no problems until now.

Most of our work has been basicly pockets and holes. We have just purchased
a machine with rigid tapping capability.

The problem is inserting a depth on the tapping cycle.

For example I would like to tap a hole with a 1/4-20 tap.

On the tool page I will insert .25 for tool Dia. 20 for the TPI.

Then on the Operation page I insert .05 for the IPR

When I go to the Change Property- Holes/Points and try to Change the tip
depths Say -.5 it changes to a positive .5

Also the full depth and spot dia. stays blank.

Thanks in advance
