Cut Tap 640 RPM 20
IPM
for a 1/4"-20 rollform I use a
.228 drill (5.8 mm) and for a
5/16"-18 rollform I use a .287
drill (7.3 mm).
Drilling a blind hole to 1.100
deep and tapping at 1.0 deep.
I use cut taps or thread mills for
the most part and use rollform taps
for the blind holes because
they don't compact chips in the bottom of
the hole.
I've never had any problems with
rigid tapping.
