Frank,
I am in the same position that you are, I have been
evaluating and looking
for a replacement for some time. . I am running
Solidworks(great program
IMO) and looking to integrate solids in to my next cam
package. When I
first began evaluating CAM packages I looked at Esprit,
FeatureCAM, TekSoft
CamWorks, EdgeCAM and MasterCam. At one point I was heavily
leaning toward
EdgeCAM, but now after talking to several people who have
used both, EdgeCAM
and MasterCam, I am on a MasterCam track now. This forum is
an extremely
valuable asset with very helpful and knowledgeable members.
The MasterCam
forum is the only forum that is comparable to this one.
Just like this
forum there are several individuals on MasterCam's forum
that are gurus and
go out of their way to help anyone.
Here are the forums for EdgeCAM and MasterCam you can check
them out and see
for yourself.

Look at this thread on MasterCam's forum "Saddam Hussein
Attacks Forum!"
The thread addresses the issues between EdgeCAM and
MasterCam. Let me know
if you want me to post it.
It is difficult to get opinions from CAM users. The package
they are using
has to be absolutely the best package in the world or why
else would they be
using it, no others cam possibly compare. I have questioned
some product
features and received answers that I would have thought I
insulted the looks
of their spouse.
So, the best advice I can give is to continue what you are
doing, ask
questions and try to find out as much information on your
own and draw you
own conclusions.
If you have any question feel free to email me directly.

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] Software change
Hello Group!
I have been a SmartCam user and follower of this Newsgroup
since version
9.0; still running V11.5 (Production Milling), without
problem, but the
moment has arrived to move on and catch up with the
evolution of technology,
therefore the need to change software is here; for the time
being I will
have presentations by SolidWorks, EdgeCam and MasterCam.
Being a follower of
this NG, I know that expertise and knowledge of the group
has been of great
help to every one on every aspect of manufacturing and this
is my
opportunity to ask you about those applications mentioned
above, which I am
sure some of you have a great knowledge of.
I will appreciate any comments on the pros/cons of such
applications.
Frank A.
