Hello everyone,
I am trying to mill a pocket with islands using free form machining
in a Proto Trak Plus milling machine. I have used all combinations of
spiral, zig zag, and linear moves. Many different combinations of width of
cut, wall allowance, corner rounding and refine curve fit. It seems no
matter what I do smart cam adds a .0001 long line to my geometry. This line
causes my machine to give me an alarm that says the start and end points of
the line are the same. I'll say this alarm has something to do with the fact
the Proto Trak only reads to .0005 inches. I changed .tmp files to the one
offered by a member of the group last month. I now get a program that is in
.0005 increments (Thanks Fred) but the output still shows the start and end
points as the same.
How can I find how smart cam picks which way a pocket will be cut
and what will be the smallest line allowed?
I would not rule out the possibility that I am overlooking something
or doing something wrong, so if anyone can offer any input to a solution for
this problem I'll have a better day tomorrow and if not I'll still be
wishing everyone else a good day.

Thanks, Dan
