Subject: RE: [mfg-smartcam] grooving with Production turning v11.5Louis,
Thanks for the suggestion, but that won't work because my groove is defined as a single element, I assume that you define your grooves as multiple elements. It just seems that there should be a simpler way than having to define a single groove as multiple groove elements and calculating the step over needed.
I tried setting the anchor point at the right hand edge, and the groove width as a minus value, but it still cuts the groove from left to right.
I did find an option in the .smf that lets you start the groove in the center and work out to each edge(question #200), but that is not quite what I want to do.
.........Anyone??
Thanks
Jimmy

we do a lot of grooving, just group the geometry in the order you want the
cuts
and seq. move with by select order.

Title: RE: [mfg-smartcam] grooving with Production turning v11.5
When grooving with a tool
narrower than the groove I use the following method...
I
groove by plunging the middle leaving equal material on both sides and
leaving .01" on diameter.
Retract and go to the left hand side of the groove where I either chamfer
or corner break and profile
the
the left hand side to full depth. Clear the part. Retract. Go to the right
hand side.
Chamfer or corner break and profile right side to depth . Once at depth,
I drag across the
bottom
to blend up with the left hand side. Clear the part and
retract.
This
method of grooving is not as simple to do as adding an automated grooving
element but it works well.
If you
would like, I can e-mail a sample shape file for you.
