Here is what a new Smartcam should have so that it could be affordable and online faster. Strip FFM's modeling side, integrate Rhino for file import, export, translation capability, and modeling.
Improve the tool management to current Windows stds, macro capability enhancements, a Knowledge base function like Visualmill, parasolid import like Visualmill, add more tool path methods including Rest milling like Visualmill. I am using Visualmill now with Rhino as the plugin modeler, heck, I have parasolids and the Knowledge base now with Visualmill. People, the guys at Mecsoft already have all this for 2k. Maybe EDS has waited too long for an affordable yet robust cam software solution. FWIW, for the past several months Visualmill bundled with Rhino has been on a $950. special that ends Feb 1st. After Feb 1 Visualmill will return to 2k. Also, I bought Visualmill 2 years ago without Rhino for $4,300.00 and still feel like I got a bargain.
Here is a link to the machining strategies in Visualmill today.

After the way we (users) were treated, I'm not sure I could trust any
company to market a useful version of Smartcam.
Before I buy back into it, there would need to be a major revision with many
enhancements.
If all they do is re-market V11 then it isn't worth a pound of rat @#$#.
The competition has lapped smartcam many times over since any programmer
looked at the code.
There are still some things that smartcam does easier than the others, but
there are things it never did, or never did well.
If EDS were to develop Smartcam into a viable product it probably would be
in name only.

All,

If this kind of thing occurred in the near future as a commercial

would anyone buy the update and actually become a customer again? Some
people have investigated doing this, but it does require a pretty

customer

base that there is a market could help make it a reality.
