G stands for G.
That's why it's called G-code.
Or should it be called M-code?

G codes are called preparatory functions which define the machining method and the
axis movement to the specified G-code. (G81, G83, G41, G99, G01, G03, ETC.)

M codes are called miscellaneous functions that control program flow.
(M08, M50, M19, M59, M30, M98, ETC.)

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] What's the "G" stand for?

Hi all,
Maybe this is simple, or maybe we will have some fun with it.
I was just asked this question:
What does the "G" stand for in g-code? After 25 years in the business, I couldn't answer! I can make some educated guesses, but I have never heard the real definition.
So... what's the "G" stand for?
