Turn on the RC transmitter and bring it near various parts of the cable run. If the cable/connectors are poorly shielded then bringing the transmitter near the cable (but not the cable box or cable modem) will cause interference. Next you can remove any splitters and run the cable box by itself. Then the cable modem. Etc.
