I have a HP PSC 1315 all-in-one that works fine for me with Linux.

I have an other, Brothers MFC-3240C, that I use it to scan public domain 
books.  It has an automatic document feed.  I could not get to work with 
Linux.  I just have it connected to an old machine with Win98se.  Reboot into 
Linux scp the scans to my main machine.
