Speaking of the T61, here's a little bit of sharing from what I've
discovered. As far as how this applies to Gutsy, you're unfortunately
on your own:

* Thinkpad_acpi needs to be the *latest* patchset to work properly. He
only recently added 15-layer brightness, which means with an older
tp-acpi you won't get full brightness on the t61 hardware.

* The usb controller does NOT like powertops suggestion of using
usb-autosuspend. Don't.

* Install the latest Bios. This came out Oct 18. It reduced power
consumption by a measurable amount.

* acpi_video is key to have configured and loaded

* The nvidia model is very finicky about when it works with brightness.
It didn't work at all until I upgraded the bios, and then stopped
working again during a kernel upgrade.

* Sound does not work until 2.6.23, the intel_hda drivers were funny
before then.

* The TPM needs the TIC and Infineon drivers. And it doesn't seem to
like a suspend/resume cycle.

Despite all that, it's a reasonably solid piece of hardware. I've got
everything I need working, working, at this point, and while the
brightness not working in X is slightly annoying I can get around it
easily enough.

Good luck with yours,

-m
